How to choose the right natural mascara?
In the world of natural make-up, it's impossible to ignore one of the flagship cosmetic products: mascara. But between the ingredients, environmental impact, and promised versus actual results, it's not easy to navigate. So, how do you choose an effective natural mascara?
How to choose your mascara?
To know which natural mascara to choose, several criteria need to be considered.
The environmental impact of mascara ingredients
We tend to prefer organic mascaras when we want to opt for a natural beauty routine. And it's true that the formulations seem much more reliable in terms of environmental and health aspects.
However, which organic mascara should you choose? Because you should know that organic labels do not always guarantee that the formulation is risk-free for health (allergic reactions, etc.), vegan (not containing animal products), and cruelty-free (without methods involving animals). On top of that, it's possible that the ingredients come from very far away, which, in terms of environmental impact, is far from relevant…
So, we recommend you also take into account:
- the vegan and cruelty-free claims of your product (between us, let's leave animals alone, they shouldn't be involved in our cosmetics, don't you think?);
- the mascara's composition: do the ingredients come from far away, are they potentially allergenic, what is the product's naturalness percentage, etc.?
The environmental impact of the packaging
And the mascara's composition isn't everything! It's also necessary to look at the product's packaging. For a zero-waste beauty, it is preferable to reduce as much as possible components that require more resources or potentially energy-intensive production. Furthermore, certain materials, such as plastic and especially single-use plastic, should be avoided as much as possible!
What solutions are available to us then?
Well, you can either opt for:
- a rechargeable mascara packaging that does not require additional resources (or much less) after the product has been used up;
- or components made from eco-responsible materials (wood, bamboo, glass, recycled plastic, etc.).
By the way, if you want more information, feel free to check out zero-waste makeup. You'll find many waste-reducing tips to incorporate into your natural cosmetic routine.
The effectiveness of natural mascara
But beyond these ethical and environmental criteria, there is obviously the question of knowing which mascara is the right one?
Because to choose the right mascara, you still need to consider your expectations.
Do you want to:
- add volume?
- separate your lashes?
- intensify your gaze?
- enjoy long-lasting wear, etc.?
Don't hesitate to take another look at the composition of your mascara. By identifying the ingredients present, you can more easily understand the benefits you can derive from them. Indeed, certain active ingredients have different effects on your lashes.
So, what is the best natural mascara?
With all that, what is the best mascara to put in your makeup bag?
Well, on this question, you will certainly tell us that we are far from objective, and yet! We are proud and have worked so hard that this is an opportunity for us to introduce you to our natural and zero-waste mascara, #INVINCIBLE which we are very proud of, because it is natural while being effective.
A natural and effective composition
Our mascara is vegan and cruelty-free. It is made of 99.98% ingredients of natural origin, while the active ingredients are organic and produced in France.
Here is its complete formulation (ingredients are listed in scientific terms; for better understanding, some have their common names noted in parentheses): WATER, IRON OXIDE (CI 77499), PRUNUS AMYGDALUS DULCIS OIL, GLYCERIN, 2,3-BUTANEDIOL, CELLULOSE, HYDROGENATED OLIVE OIL STEARYL ESTERS, JOJOBA ESTERS, ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) STARCH, COPERNICIA CERIFERA CERA, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED WAX, CETEARYL ALCOHOL, METHYLHEPTYLGLYCERIN, TILIA TOMENTOSA EXTRACT, HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL, ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF EXTRACT, RHUS SUCCEDANEA FRUIT WAX, ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) BRAN WAX, ORYZA SATIVA (RICE) BRAN OIL, VEGETABLE (OLUS) OIL, ACACIA SENEGAL GUM, XANTHAN GUM, POLYGLYCERIN-3, CITRIC ACID, ASCORBYL PALMITATE, TOCOPHEROL, GLYCERYL STEARATE, SODIUM STEAROYL GLUTAMATE, POTASSIUM SORBATE, SODIUM BENZOATE.
Let's focus particularly on its key active ingredients and the benefits you can expect:
- silver linden, the star active ingredient, provides volume and radiance to lashes;
- sweet almond oil fortifies lashes;
- olive wax provides texture;
- carnauba wax improves mascara hold.
Rechargeable and eco-responsible packaging
Now, let's move on to the container, a very clever packaging. It was designed to limit waste as much as possible, and also to reduce the use of various energies. We have here the very first rechargeable and recyclable glass mascara.
The part containing the product is a glass bottle that can therefore be recycled. In addition, this material is significantly less polluting than plastic. This is completely new for a zero-waste mascara!
Regarding the refill, its cap is made from recycled and recyclable material. As for the brush, it is reusable after being cleaned; you just need to insert it into the new glass refill (we'll tell you more about this a little later).
In short, you can keep the mascara for life and only need to buy refills!
Performing properties
And what about its properties? Due to its various active ingredients, our eco-responsible mascara cares for the eyelashes, protects them, and adds volume thanks to silver linden.
Its brush allows you to define and lengthen your eyelashes.
And then, this mascara has the other great advantage of bringing intensity to the eyes and holding perfectly over time while being easy to apply.
But to be convinced, you have to try it!
How to use mascara?
On a daily basis, the rechargeable mascara is handled in the same way as its counterparts. To use it properly, you simply need to place the mascara brush at the base of your lashes and stretch upwards with a very slight zigzag motion. You can repeat the operation along the lash line as many times as you like to achieve the desired result.
How does the refill work?
When you have finished your mascara, you can recycle the glass bottle and keep the reusable brush, which you can use with the refill. To do this, you simply need to:
- clean the brush with water and a little soap, paying particular attention to the bristles;
- wipe the entire brush with a cloth soaked in 90° alcohol;
- dry the brush with a dry cloth, again paying close attention to the bristles.
Note that it is entirely possible to purchase the mascara in individual format or the "Doe Eyes" pack which includes the mascara and its refill.
We hope that our tips for choosing your natural mascara have been useful. Feel free to share yours, and also to share your opinion on the #INVINCIBLE mascara!
